What We Do:
Coiled tubing is simple conceptually: continuous steel tubing wound on a spool for repeated deployment into and
out of oil wells. It can be used for every aspect of well construction and servicing.
However, coiled tubing exhibits surprising mechanical responses to routine operating conditions. Under pressures
and axial loading considered harmless to conventional tubing, coiled tubing’s dimensions and mechanical properties change throughout
its service life. Fatigue crack development is counterintuitive and governed by complex states of multiaxial cyclic
plasticity and residual stress.
The Coiled Tubing Research Consortium is dedicated to improving our understanding of the mechanical behavior of
coiled tubing and to the development of practical analytical tools for maximizing its benefits and its progress.
